Foreword

The combination of baseball knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching it is an ideal foundation for an instruction book.

Mickey McConnell possesses such a foundation and to a degree sufficient to make this volume a valuable addition to the library of both coach and player.

The author's baseball knowledge has been gained from many years of on-the-field association with players in the major and minor leagues, on college fields and countless sandlot diamonds. The scope of his travels as a scout, instructor, and supervisor of clinic and tryout camp includes Latin America and the Orient. The following pages reflect this broad and unique background.

There is far more to teaching baseball than merely telling "how to." McConnell, who writes for the beginner as well as the coach, reflects this understanding by dealing with the would-be player's attitudes and disposition. He delves into the many intangibles that so heavily influence success or failure at bat and in the field.

I have known Mickey McConnell for many years, and always as a sincere and indefatigable worker in behalf of baseball. These fine qualities and more are reflected in a baseball instruction book that should be, and will be, I am sure, welcomed wherever the great game is played.
